So You Say You Can't Sleep (original poem)
This is where it all started in 2013 when I was pregnant with Hattie. I wrote her a lullaby I could sing to her...then turned it into a poem that I eventually wanted to make into a book....But, then it sat unpublished and unillustrated for the better part of a decade!!!Thanks to all my amazing supporters it's now finished and SELLING! So you say you can’t sleep, can’t turn over, rest your cheekagainst the pillow and just close your eyesIt’s unfair, you don’t knowwhat you’re missing if you gobut you’re missing so much more if you don’t.-------Sleep my dear and you will seeWhen we sleep our minds are freeTo do and be whatever our hearts desireGrow some wings and soar the skyKnow just what if feels to flyWith birds alike you’ll rest high on a wire-------Lead a fleet of pirate handsCoast around from land to landFind new treasure every time you sailThen dive below the deep blue sea,Swim with mermaids wild and freePush the limits of your new fishy tail----Leave behind the wild life,Jump on stage with big bright lightsAnd sing aloud to adoring fanswhy not drive in a big raceGo real fast to win first placeThen wave to all your friends up in the stands------Get in the game with pro athletesSee how fast you move your feetAnd put all of your new skills to the testFor when you sleep your mind is freeTo run and play and do and seeAll the while your body is at rest-----Sleep my dear so you will seeThat all the things you wish to beAre right behind the sleep you want to fight…Close your eyes, dream for meKnow I love you endlesslyAnd see the world you’ll only see at night!
